Will's Two Weeks At Camp

I love being apprentice because I like to do a bunch of different jobs. During the week I do shopping and other things such as dining hall clean up, helping move benches in the gym, and soda order and food prep. In food prep, we made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner, which was my favorite job I’ve done so far!

I also had a great time at camp having fun and flirting with girls because I am a ladies man every time I return to camp every summer. I enjoyed having a night off with other apprentices like going to bowling. For our night in, we got to tie-dye t-shirts and have a big meal with wings, sandwiches, and even ice cream for dessert! These days off were really fun and some of the best parts of being at camp.

I also had a great time at the dance. They played some really great music and I got to dance around with my friends and Job Coaches. I am also happy to see Jack Walker again, who was my job coach from last year. He surprised us and came to visit camp, so I’m really happy I was here for when he came.

I’ve had a lot of fun these past two weeks at camp!

It’s been an AMAZING four weeks!

We are now winding down week 4 with only 2 more days of camp. It has been an amazing 4 weeks being in the apprentice program! My favorite job over all was working with Harvey. I was able to give him a bath, and even clip his nails.

My favorite programs were pioneering and language arts. My favorite activity in pioneering was learning the food chain. My favorite activity in language arts was when I got homework. I hope I can get another piece of homework before the session ends!

I am really happy about tonight for our night in and being a DJ for the talent show. I am also singing a solo doing ”No One Needs to Know” by Shania Twain. I also liked going bowling for our night out. My birthday was in week 3 and I got to have a birthday party at camp. I had a really great birthday with all of my friends at camp. I can’t wait until next summer when I come back!

Ben's Exciting Experience

I am an Apprentice at Camp Horizons and I really like all my jobs. For water delivery, I scoop out ice into the bucket and  put water into it. Then, I bring it to the activities that need water for the day. We also get to feed the donkies. We give them grain, hay, and fill up their water. I am also a Pool Assistant sometimes during the week. I skim the pool to make sure that there is no dirt or bugs in it for when campers come to swim. I am very responsible and always make sure my work gets done.

My favorite activity is Health and Fitness. We go on the the bikes and work out. This week I even won the Health and Fitness award!! One of my other favorite jobs is Off-the-Grid. We sand buckets and work on bird houses, which is a lot of fun. We also have night-in’s where we hang out  and eat dinner somewhere else than the dining hall. On our nights out, we get to go do something fun like bowling last week. Evening activities are fun, too. Last night was the dance, and everyone got dressed up and I danced around with my Job Coaches. It was really fun!

I can’t wait to come back next year!

Vicky's Experience At Camp

Hi, my name is Vicky!

I started Camp Horizons when I was 15. That was 2005 and then I started the Apprentice program in 2010. My favorite activity at Camp Horizons is horseback riding and swimming. I do a lot of jobs at Camp Horizons as an Apprentice, and one of my jobs is Pool Assistant, Off-the-Grid, and Coffee service. We do nights out and nights in where we go do things outside of camp that we do not normally get to do.

Last week we went bowling and it was really fun. I love doing the apprentice program. Today we are doing are night in we are staying at camp and making tie-dye!

I am working with Natalie, Ben, and Kunal and sometimes we work with Janine and Logan and Dustin. We eat breakfast and Lunch and  Dinner with Scott and Aileen and Justin and Emily and Emma and Rohan .I have Job Coaches, and their names are Emily and Lauren and Jesse and Andy. I love being an Apprentice because I  am good at it and I am responsible and independent. I have always been on time for my job and the programs, so I know I’m good at my job. I hope I can be in Apprentice next year in 2016!

Natalie's Camp Story

My name is Natalie and I have been coming to Camp Horizons since I was 12 years old and I am now 25, almost 26.

I started the Apprentice Program in 2011. It is a fun program where we do certain jobs like coffee service where we make the coffee and then deliver it to tables. We also help out with program activities. One of our jobs is pool assistant, where we check the filters in the pool. For coffee service we make the coffee and then we go around to each table and ask people if they want any.

My favorite activities at camp are pioneering, music and horses. My favorite evening activity was karaoke night when I sang "That don’t impress me much" by Shania Twain. When I am not at camp I go to a day program called Marc in Cromwell, Connecticut. I work at ShopRite in Manchester and East Hartford. I clean the glass doors and the aisles. I also work at a job site called Meals on Wheels delivering food to customers houses. I have a older brother named Jason and a younger brother named Geoff. Jason is 38 and Geoff is 22. I just turned 26 on 7/7/2015. My favorite TV shows are Lassie, Full House, and Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. My favorite singers are Selena Gomez, Shania Twain and Hilary Duff. I just got a new cat named Sox and she is black and white.

Bowling Night Out

Last week we went to the bowling alley to have a great time together for our night out. Kunal and I played bowling and danced to the music.I used my hearing aid to listen to the bowling sounds. I got a spare, and Kunal got one too. Logan even got a couple strikes! Everyone did a really great job, and we were all laughing the entire time! We also ate good food and soda at bowling, and this was a special treat that we usually don’t get at camp.

We had a really fun night out as apprentices, and I can’t wait to see what we’ll do for our night in coming up this week! It’s going to be the best week ever!

Scott's Story

We went bowling and in the first game my score was 116.

Now i only have five days of Summer Camp left before I leave this Saturday.

I videotaped this band that performed here yesterday for Second Sunday and it was Fiesta Del Norte and I had lots of video shots of it on my SD card along with the last campfire.

At the bowling alley in North Windham CT I had water, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, fries, and macaroni and cheese balls.

I had fun with everyone and can’t wait to have a day off from Summer Camp to meet with Colin Rice in town at the radio station in Willimantic Ct for a internship.

I’m also excited about meeting Jack Walker on July 15th, 16th, and 17th which are the three days of his visit since I miss seeing him here at horizons.

On Week 3 I made a Thank you note to give to Christian Robinson about how to make Microsoft Outlook work on my laptop since i always had problems with it at home in my hometown.

This was not only a experience but also a opportunity that I could only get at summer camp.
