Big Accomplishment at Horses
I did horses on Monday and I was a little nervous at first, but then I really liked it. I was scared to get on and ride, but I got over my fear and ended up having a lot of fun. The staff at horses were really nice, and they let me ride two horses named Buddy and Freckles. I’m so glad I did it! I was very proud of myself that I went on a horse.
Horses are not the only animals that I take care of at camp. I also get to walk with Harvey or give him treats when he does a trick!
Next year I hope all of the apprentices and job coaches come back, because I’m going to miss them! I hope everyone has a good summer!

My two weeks as an apprentice is over. I am going to miss all of the exciting things that I get to do at camp. There is such a variety of jobs and activities to attend that I never get bored and I can’t wait to come back next year. Being an apprentice is about being independent of going to our jobs on time. Also walking to programs all by ourselves. We get to use our cell phones to communicate with our job coaches. My favorite part of being an apprentice is getting to work at camp horizons. I love being an assistant to the program counselors and I love being able to walk around camp and do jobs that keep camp running.
Will's Two Weeks At Camp
I love being apprentice because I like to do a bunch of different jobs. During the week I do shopping and other things such as dining hall clean up, helping move benches in the gym, and soda order and food prep. In food prep, we made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner, which was my favorite job I’ve done so far!
I’ve had a lot of fun these past two weeks at camp!

It’s been an AMAZING four weeks!
We are now winding down week 4 with only 2 more days of camp. It has been an amazing 4 weeks being in the apprentice program! My favorite job over all was working with Harvey. I was able to give him a bath, and even clip his nails.
I am really happy about tonight for our night in and being a DJ for the talent show. I am also singing a solo doing ”No One Needs to Know” by Shania Twain. I also liked going bowling for our night out. My birthday was in week 3 and I got to have a birthday party at camp. I had a really great birthday with all of my friends at camp. I can’t wait until next summer when I come back!

Natalie's Camp Story
I started the Apprentice Program in 2011. It is a fun program where we do certain jobs like coffee service where we make the coffee and then deliver it to tables. We also help out with program activities. One of our jobs is pool assistant, where we check the filters in the pool. For coffee service we make the coffee and then we go around to each table and ask people if they want any.
My favorite activities at camp are pioneering, music and horses. My favorite evening activity was karaoke night when I sang "That don’t impress me much" by Shania Twain. When I am not at camp I go to a day program called Marc in Cromwell, Connecticut. I work at ShopRite in Manchester and East Hartford. I clean the glass doors and the aisles. I also work at a job site called Meals on Wheels delivering food to customers houses. I have a older brother named Jason and a younger brother named Geoff. Jason is 38 and Geoff is 22. I just turned 26 on 7/7/2015. My favorite TV shows are Lassie, Full House, and Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. My favorite singers are Selena Gomez, Shania Twain and Hilary Duff. I just got a new cat named Sox and she is black and white.

Dustin's crazy camp life
I love coming to camp because it is very fun and I get to see all of my friends and my fiancé. I love being silly with everyone. Last night I went bowling for our night off and we met up with our old friend Des. I beat everyone at bowling, I am the king of the pins!
I like to work with Steve because we get to do different things than other people at camp. We get to do wood work and doing maintenance around camp. I like fixing and building things and Steve is a great person to work with. I like working with Steve because I have known him for a long time and we always have fun working hard.
We have a new job this year feeding the donkies and it is awesome. We get to walk over to the EEC and leave camp for a little while and we feed the donkies and give water to the chickens. While we wait for the donkies to finish eating we get to sit with our friends and the job coaches and talk about stuff. We have lots of fun.
Second session with Rohan and Kunal
Kunal and I are best friend. I like Kunal because he is a funny and is a great guy. We go to camp horizons together every year and we are here for four weeks this summer! We like going to camp together because we are both pros at the apprentice program. We like helping people at camp and we also help each other.
Rohan and I love to play music together. We like to dance at the dances, we are both really good dancers and we have a lot of fun. We are like brothers and I wouldn't want to have camp any other way!Thursday, July 9, 2015
Hello From Horizons!

So Sunday we kicked off our second session with some gorgeous weather, and an amazing intake day! Everyone is excited for the next two weeks, new faces, new friends, it's just going to be fantastic! Our new group of Campers and Apprentices are here, and the Apprentices are already hard at work.
We had a great first session, as you can tell from the amazing blog posts that the Apprentices have done so far. We went down to the Pond for a night in, no mosquito's that night! The Apprentices dance and sang at the Talent show, everyone had a great time with that. Our day out was extremely fun, we went to Mystic Aquarium and explored all the different areas there, and even touched some Bull Nosed Rays ( they're very slimy). I hear amazing things from the Job coaches about the Apprentices, and how they work very hard in their jobs. Honestly with out them, Camp probably wouldn't run as smoothly.
We've had a blast these past three weeks, I can't believe how quickly the time has gone. These guys and gals are amazing, and they prove that every day!

Wacky Wednesday!!! By Aileen, Janine, and Justin.
Today is wacky Wednesday!!! It's one of our theme days where we get to dress up as wacky people. We raided our cubbies and found the craziest outfit that we could find. At breakfast everyone had crazy hair styles, were wearing tie dye, had cat shirts, and some people even had paper towels coming out of their hats. Our whole group was so excited, even our counselors got wacky!
Last night's evening activity was a live concert in the gym. The band was called the Hillbilly Graham Crackers and we had a lot of fun. We all danced together in one big circle. I had a great time listening to music and dancing with my friends!Monday, July 6, 2015

Aileen's Day
I love being an Apprentice because of the independence and all the different jobs I asked for on my resume. My all time favorite part about being at camp is riding horses and going boating and Arts and Crafts and swimming in the pool. I have Coffee Service which is when you pour coffee into Cups and add milk and sometimes sugar, then ask groups if their campers if they want Coffee. Then I have Water Delivery, which is when you fill up water jugs and bring them to each activity and leave cups and a garbage bag with the water jug. The first activity is Drama which is my all time favorite activity because I love acting and singing and such. Then there is health and fitness is the coolest activity ever since you get to learn different things like how to eat healthy foods. Dining Hall/Soda prep is something that they came up with last year its so easy, you basically go around to each activity (Program) and ask each group if they have any soda money and they drop the ticket into the Treasure Box. Then we go back to the dining hall and get the soda and bring them to each table before lunch begins. Dining hall clean up is basically helping Voc sweep, taking out the trash.
I love Horses the best because I love riding horses and getting to say like “Whoa” and walk on” and the best part is getting on and off from the Horse which is the easiest. After Horses I have Swimming which is my all time favorite because I get to swim with all of my friends, and then right after swimming i have dinner setup and soda prep just like at lunch. Then there’s dinner cleanup, then the best part of the day is Evening Activity!!!!

A well deserved day off. By Justin
Graham's Day Off
My two weeks as an apprentice. By Julie
I like my Job Coachs Lauren, Jesse, Andy, and Emily. They taught me different things this week like how to make a fence for a garden as well as hoe to tend to a garden. We are responsible for watering a majority of the plants and flowers at camp horizons. I like this responsibility because it is something that I learn here at camp but I can also do these jobs at home with my family.
I like working in the Trading post which is our own little shop at camp. I like working there because it's nice to see how they price their items on the Computer. I get to work behind the counter with staff and help campers buy their items. I like being an apperentice because I can work by myself or with a few other apprentices without counselors around. It makes me feel responsible and I get a sense of independence here that I don't always get at other places.
My days at camp are very exciting and full of different jobs and activities. Yesterday I did yoga, played family feud, rode a bicycle, chase the chckens and feed the donkies. I also created a memory book to take home. I also made a banner, and wrote a thank you letter to all the counselors. I had fun in horses yesterday we did some riding and throwing horse shoes, and I also did Camp Crafts Assistant. Tomorrow I will be doing mail sorting and also doing Arts and Crafts Assistant and meeting new friends like I do every day at camp.
